USA Football Master Trainers prepare to deliver the Player Safety Coach (PSC) clinics in 2015

Heads Up Football is USA Football’s national initiative to help make the sport of football better and safer. The Player Safety Coach (PSC) clinic program is one of the key vehicles to deliver this vital information to coaches. Face to face learning opportunities are provided through the nationally delivered PSC programe which is delivered by a team of Master Trainers (MTs). Master Trainers are attending a series of workshop in Indianapolis this Spring to familiarise themselves with the program content and explore how they can deliver excellent presentations to PSCs. The first event took place Jan 24 and 25.

As lead for coach education at USA FB Sarah has worked with the team to ensure the weekend events are adopting a facilitative approach challenging MTs to present elements of the content in front of their peers acting as PSCs and then engage in a group reflection exercise to explore how effectively they delivered the material. This approach was greeted with enthusiasm and served to provide a breeding ground for shared learning. Rub Currin, MT and Head Coach at Alden High School commented that:

'The professional development provided was outstanding. In addition to coaching football, I am an English teacher here at Alden High School. It was both refreshing and enlightening to participate in Saturday’s workshop. I believe in using discussion as often as I can in my classroom and Saturday’s format certainly provided a great deal of that. I liked the fact that we were able to tap into the collective experience of the room. We were able to review the material and several ways in which that material was delivered. This was obviously the aim but it was extremely effective in the execution.'
