USAFB share development updates at Shape America National Coaching Conference

On behalf of USAFB Sarah was thrilled to present at the 2015 National Coaching Conference held June 10-12 in Morgantown, WV. The National Coaching Conference is The United States Coaching Education Coalition's (USOC, NCAA, NFHS, SHAPE America and NSCA) opportunity to bring together coaches, coach educators/developers and sport science researchers for the enrichment of coaching and sport. The theme for the 2015 National Coaching Conference was Physical Literacy: The Launching Pad for Lifetime Athletic Development and Performance. The program focused on current research and practice models for optimal integration of athletic development for both participation and peak performance.

The aim of Sarah's presentation was to share current issues impacting the game of Football and identify how a holistic development approach can be used to support the future of the game. ‘Draft’ player and coach development models were introduced and the challenges and opportunities associated with creating a Football or sport specific development model were explored.

A personal highlight from the conference was catching up with Sergio Lara-Bacal (Senior Research Fellow at Leeds Beckett and ICCE) an old friend and colleague. Sergio shared updates from the International Council for Coaching Excellence on the development of sport and coaching globally. His messaging was reassuring for USAFB in terms of current developments modelling current best international practice.
