PGA of GB & I Celebrates Latest Cohort of Mentoring Program Graduates

In the realm of professional development, few environments offer the same hands-on learning as a work-based setting. For PGA trainees, that environment encompasses everything from the bustling golf shop to the driving range, putting green, and, ultimately, the course itself.

To nurture high-quality learning, it’s essential to identify each trainee’s unique developmental needs. Addressing these not only enhances their skills but also enriches their future contributions to the sport. Trainee professionals need tailored learning strategies, support in real-life scenarios, and mentors who can guide their journey. Here, the seasoned PGA Professional is ideally suited to provide mentorship, empowering trainees to build key skills and competencies:

  • Deliver individual and group coaching sessions

  • Assist with organizing and managing competitions

  • Conduct club repairs and offer custom fittings

To support this vision, e.t.c coaching consultants, led by experts Linda Low, John Ackerly, and Sarah McQuade, collaborated with MiMentor (James Baker) to deliver the PGA Trainee Professional Mentoring Program. Now in its third cycle, the program welcomed 25 club professionals from across Great Britain and Ireland, offering them access to world-class mentoring resources through the bespoke PGA MiMentor Platform.

Spanning six weeks, the Mentoring Program was structured into learning blocks, utilizing a blended format of online courses and webinars. This approach gives PGA professionals comprehensive training in:

  1. Introduction to Mentoring

  2. Profiling and Professional Development Planning

  3. Mastering the Art of Questioning and Active Listening

  4. Reflective Development for Growth

This cohort embraced the program with curiosity, openness, and a commitment to elevate their mentoring approach. Reflecting on the experience, one PGA Professional shared:

"The program has helped me appreciate the skills I already possess. Mentoring truly makes a difference, particularly in golf. It’s given me the confidence to pursue a new role, and I’m excited to apply for the Director of Coaching position within my club."

A heartfelt thanks to Linda Low and John Ackerly for their dedication and expertise in guiding these professionals. And to the PGA of GB & I, thank you for entrusting MiMentor and e.t.c coaching consultants with the opportunity to support the next generation of PGA Professionals.
